The 4×2 rigid will be on display with a day cab and fridge body. It can be ordered now as either an 18-tonnes GVW rigid or a 6×2 26-tonner.
The 320hp G9K engine is a spark-ignition engine fitted with a 3-way catalyst, meaning there is no requirement to fit a diesel particulate filter. SCR and AdBlue are not required either.
Volvo claims that the CO2 emissions of a CNG engine are some 20% less than those of a diesel powered unit.
The volume of CNG fuel, which is carried in three chassis-mounted, 100-litre cells, is approximately 117 kgs. This will provide in the region of the same amount of energy as 117 litres of diesel and a range for the FE on display at the Freight in the City Expo of between 80 and 400km.
The manufacturer will also have its FM City Tipper (second image) at the expo.
For urban use, a lower driver position is also available as an option.
Low profile 385/55R22.5 tyres on the front axles and 315/70R22.5 tyres on both drive axles aid the lower driving position and improved visibility.
The FM City Tipper’s side guards and mudwings are also designed to protect other road users.
