Chris Douglas is a specialist freight transport consultant, experienced project and programme manager and Head of Freight & Fleets at TRL, with 22 years’ operational, advisory, representation and consultancy experience within the UK, European and overseas freight transport industries.
His extensive freight industry background includes time spent managing haulage fleets for Northern Irish operators prior to joining the Freight Transport Association, where he spent five years advising members on legal compliance and operational best practice issues, as well as representing their interests in discussions on freight planning and policy matters with local, regional and national Governments.
During more than a decade in freight transport consultancy, Chris has managed and directed many projects and programmes for a wide variety of public and private sector clients, within the UK, Europe and overseas, including the Freight Best Practice programme and its predecessor, on behalf of the UK Department for Transport (DfT). He has led freight management projects in Indonesia, Ghana and Nigeria, as well as freight policy support work and training in China.
Chris led the development of the initial ECO Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme, which has now grown to 25 schemes across the UK, the Netherlands and Spain. He has also specialised in retiming deliveries projects in recent years, leading more than 20 retiming trials for DfT and TfL.
Chris sits on the Association for European Transport’s Freight and Logistics Committee and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
