Calling all budding designers – the future of truck design is in your hands! The Future Truck Design Awards is a new initiative from Transport for London seeking innovative designs and solutions for safer urban trucks. The2016 Awards competition, open to school, college and university students will be launched at Freight in the City. An expert panel of industry professionals have been assembled to judge the Awards and will be seeking new ideas in three categories – whole vehicle design, safety feature and transportation system. Also on display will be the New Eurocargo range of medium trucks, which will make its UK show debut following an international launch in September. Shown as an 8×4 Tipper, the Econic 3235 is purpose-designed to combine versatility, ergonomics and safety like no other commercial vehicle. Put simply the Econic is in a class of its own.
For operators who require a vehicle with outstanding economy, a small footprint and a high payload, the FUSO Canter Eco Hybrid is an ideal choice for city centre distribution. The model’s 110 kW (150 hp) diesel engine works in parallel with a state-of-the-art, slimline, 40 kW (54 hp) electric motor. Having set off using electric power alone, the vehicle switches to a combination of diesel and electric operation once a speed of around 6 mph has been reached. Vehicle safety experts Vision Techniques are attending Freight in the city with their brand new ‘video analytics’ cyclist detection system, VT TurnAware.
Developed with FORS, CLOCS and Crossrail in mind, this detection system can detect movement from the blind spot mounted camera and determine the direction a hazard is moving, meaning any approaching cyclist will be detected whilst any other objects are ignored – preventing any false alarming, a common issue with ultrasonic systems.
The cyclist safety product will be live on the stand alongside a 360 virtual reality experience of what it’s like to be a cyclist and a driver driving with the detection system.
We’ll also be demonstrating our best-selling audible and visual warning system VT TurnAlarm and our illuminated warning system VT TurnSign.
