After leaving Grammar School aged 16, Lionel served a four year apprenticeship within the MOD followed by four years in design offices before being awarded a scholarship at RMCS (Cranfield) to read for his degree.
Since graduation in Automotive Engineering he has been involved with design & manufacture of all manner of vehicles, from zero-emission cars, vans & buses, the full range of on-road trailers and even heavy earth-moving equipment up to 100-ton payload.
With a career path that takes in four of Rugby’s Six Nations, he has broad experience in Design, Manufacture and Customer Support of wheeled vehicles and trailers.
He’s a Fellow of IMechE where he sits on one of the Process Industry Engineering Committees and is Chairman of the Trailer & Bodywork Technical Committee at the SMMT.
